Wealth Protection - A primary focus
An important element of Volaw's business continues to be the establishment and administration of trusts, companies and other entities to assist high net worth individuals and their families in estate planning and protecting their wealth.
- Over half of the client entities that we service have been established for the benefit of this client base, many of which have been clients for a considerable length of time
- We recognise the importance of developing a lasting relationship with family members, of knowing the ambitions of each family member and of being accepted as one of their key advisers on estate planning
- We work closely with the legal, tax and other advisers to the family on a full team approach to ensure that the objectives of the family are achieved
Structures that are wide-ranging and diverse
We administer a wide variety of structures on behalf of private individuals and families which are involved in areas such as:
- portfolio investment
- property holding, both for investment purposes and for the use of family members
- property development
- various types of trading activity
- ownership of other types of assets, such as large yachts
Trusts can be used to protect private family wealth from foreign inheritance taxes and to ensure that a family's estate passes from one generation to the next with minimal probate formalities and difficulties and in a way that meets the needs and desires of the family. We have assisted a number of families who wish to hold their wealth in trust to establish private family trust companies in Jersey, so that the family will have greater control over the actions of the trustee and the family assets.
Our Investment Supervision Team - here to help and add value
To complement the administration of the entities we manage for our clients, our Investment Supervision team assist by:
- being at the centre of the process to specify investment objectives for our clients
- selecting investment managers to fulfil those objectives
- monitoring the performance of those investment managers
- production of regular reports on that performance
